PRISHTINA, April 25, 2026 — At a time when alternative tourism is increasingly sought after by Kosovar travelers, international media is once again returning to a mysterious destination that has fascinated researchers for decades: the “Zone of Silence” in northern Mexico.

According to a feature published by Telegrafi, this roughly 50-kilometer stretch in the Bolson de Mapimi desert is famous for strange electronic equipment failures. The nearest settlement is about 30 kilometers away, deepening the sense of total isolation.

Anomalies that defy technology

Visitors report that mobile phones lose signal, compasses spin without direction, radio transmissions dissolve into static, and GPS devices give inaccurate coordinates or fail outright. Even professional cameras are not spared: many visitors say their photographs come out blurry or simply vanish.

According to Telegrafi, even after decades of research and the establishment of a nearby scientific station, “researchers have not reached a definitive conclusion about the causes of these phenomena.”

The zone’s history is rich in strange events. In 1930, Mexican pilot Francisco Sarabia reported that all his flight instruments went out of control as he passed over the area, only to return to normal after he left. Later, a U.S. military rocket veered off its trajectory and crashed inside the zone, while authorities classified the findings as state secrets.

Some theories link the zone to the Bermuda Triangle and to the Egyptian pyramids because of its geographic alignment. Local residents tell stories of rocks falling from the sky, strange figures appearing at night and unidentified lights above the desert.

Despite the speculation, the zone remains a growing draw for adventure travelers and an open puzzle for science, regularly appearing on lists of the world’s most mysterious destinations.
