Triple homicide in Gjilan — suspects still at large, IPK investigates police officers
Suspects in the triple homicide in Gjilan remain at large, while the Police Inspectorate of Kosovo investigates the conduct of officers during the initial response.

GJILAN, April 24, 2026 — More than a week after the triple homicide that shook the city of Gjilan, the alleged perpetrators are still at large, while the Police Inspectorate of Kosovo (IPK) has opened investigations into the officers on duty during the first response at the scene. The information has been confirmed by sources inside the institution, and the police have also requested technical support from specialised units in Prishtina.
The crime took place in a central area of Gjilan and caused significant alarm in the community. Citizens have voiced fear at the lack of arrests, while families of the victims have publicly demanded accountability and transparency in the investigation.
IPK reviews officer procedures
According to sources, the IPK probe focuses on the time it took patrols to reach the scene, the way the area was secured and the gathering of initial evidence. Lawyers specialising in criminal cases note that any breach of standard procedure may seriously damage the case in later judicial stages.
The Gjilan Basic Prosecution has confirmed it is closely coordinating with police units and has requested additional protective measures for potential witnesses. Borders with North Macedonia and Serbia are also under heightened watch through inter-agency cooperation.
A source inside the IPK stated that “all actions by police officers in the first moments of the case will be reviewed, because response time and securing the scene are decisive,” promising transparency in the publication of findings.
The Municipality of Gjilan has announced it will add security cameras in selected neighbourhoods and provide logistical support to the police. Civil-society activists, however, are calling for deeper reforms, including a review of protocols for responding to serious crimes.
The case is expected to test the capacities of the justice system and the credibility of Kosovo security institutions, with investigations continuing on several parallel tracks.
