Convicted attempted-murder offender arrested in Prishtina
The Kosovo Police announced the arrest in Prishtina of a previously convicted attempted-murder offender who had been the subject of an international wanted notice.

PRISHTINA, April 25, 2026 — The Kosovo Police have confirmed the arrest in the capital of a person previously convicted of attempted murder. According to the official statement, the suspect had been wanted and was located by special units during a planned operation in a Prishtina neighbourhood.
The operation was carried out without incident, and the arrested person was handed over to the competent prosecutor office for further procedures. Police emphasised that the manhunt was the result of cooperation with international law-enforcement institutions and data exchange through standard channels.
International cooperation and pursuit of fugitives
Kosovo has advanced its cooperation with Interpol and Europol over the past year, with arrests of wanted persons rising significantly. Police officials say priority remains cases of severe violence and organised crime.
According to data periodically released by the General Police Directorate, during the first three months of this year dozens of arrests of suspects who had been on the run for years were carried out. However, security-sector critics argue the witness-protection system remains weak.
The Kosovo Police spokesperson stated that “the operation was carried out without incident, and the suspect was handed over to the relevant bodies for further proceedings,” urging citizens to cooperate with police.
The victim family welcomed the arrest but called for sentences in similar cases to be fully enforced. Defence counsel did not comment to the media immediately after the arrest.
Security analyst Ramadan Qehaja has noted that increased intelligence-analysis capacity and surveillance technology have helped police become more effective, but gaps remain in regional cooperation with Serbia, where fugitive suspects often take shelter.
Investigations continue and the police have appealed for additional information from the public.
