PRISHTINA, April 20, 2026 — Albania is once again in the international spotlight after a BBC travel feature ranked the country among the most authentic and affordable destinations in Europe for the upcoming holiday season.

According to the report, clear-water beaches and white sand—compared by some travelers to the Maldives—remain the top attraction for younger tourists looking for budget-friendly trips. The Greek island of Corfu serves as a short-haul gateway for thousands of British visitors, who then take the thirty-minute ferry crossing to Saranda.

Beyond the coast, the article highlights the stone architecture of Berat and Gjirokastra, both UNESCO-protected museum cities, and the diverse wildlife that draws families and birdwatching enthusiasts.

Reasonable prices, authentic experiences

Travel blogger Amber Robertson, quoted by the BBC, described Albania as a natural alternative to Greece. She emphasized that the combination of coastline, local cuisine and hospitality creates a holiday experience rarely found at such a reasonable price point.

“Albania offers very beautiful beaches, similar to the Greek ones, but at significantly lower prices,” Robertson told the BBC.

Figures cited in the article suggest that all-inclusive weekly packages cost around £1,400 for a couple and roughly £2,300 for a family of four—rates that remain competitive against classic Mediterranean destinations.

Tour operators in Tirana and Saranda expect visitor flows from Britain, Poland and the Czech Republic to grow again this summer, while Kosovo continues to be one of the main markets for northern and mountain tourism.

The BBC piece concludes that Albania is increasingly positioning itself as “the new Mediterranean discovery,” even as local authorities face the challenge of preserving the country’s authentic character against rapid construction pressure.
