TIRANA — A new work by a Kosovar composer was presented this week in Tirana, in collaboration with an Albanian symphony orchestra. The concert hall was full, with representatives of cultural institutions from Kosovo and Albania present in the audience.

The work blends elements of contemporary music with motifs inspired by traditional Albanian music. According to critics, this is a successful attempt to create a musical language that speaks both to local audiences and to the international classical music scene.

After the Tirana evening, the composer announced that the work will also be presented in Pristina, at a special concert to be held within the coming month.

Collaborations that raise the profile

Collaborations among musicians, composers and cultural institutions of Kosovo and Albania have grown notably in recent years. Festivals, concerts and artist residencies have created exchange channels that benefit artists from both countries and give the public a richer offer.

Albanian classical music has traditionally had well-known names, but a younger generation of composers is entering a new period, mixing different influences and working with orchestras in Europe. Kosovo, however, continues to need more developed symphonic music infrastructure.

The composer said his work is a kind of bridge between tradition and the contemporary, and that he is proud that it is presented for the first time in a collaboration between musicians from Tirana and Pristina.

The work will also be recorded in a professional studio in Tirana, while its participation in a classical music festival in Vienna in the coming autumn is being negotiated.
