Prizren’s Dokufest begins preparations for new edition with films from the region
Organisers of the international documentary film festival in Prizren have begun film selection and logistical work for the new edition.

PRIZREN — The international documentary and short film festival Dokufest has announced that preparations have begun for the new edition to be held in the city of Prizren. Organisers have confirmed that the film selection process and work on the festival’s infrastructure are already under way.
Dokufest, one of the best-known cultural events in Kosovo and the region, gathers thousands of viewers each summer at Shadërvan square, at the city’s fortress and at Prizren’s open-air cinemas. The festival has built an international reputation over the years and receives applications from filmmakers across the world.
According to organisers, the new programme will continue to combine documentary and short films with debates, exhibitions and workshops for young directors. Special attention will be paid to collaborations with other festivals from the Balkans.
Prizren as a summer cultural hub
For several weeks each year, Prizren transforms into an international cultural hub, also offering art exhibitions, concerts and public debates. The city’s hotels and cafés use the festival as the high point of the tourist season.
Dokufest has also been a platform for young Kosovar directors, some of whom have grown professionally through programmes such as “Future is Here” and workshops dedicated to secondary schools. Organisers have expressed a wish to expand this component in the new edition.
Festival leaders said Dokufest will remain faithful to its mission — to be a space where documentary film meets a wider public and where Prizren is reminded that it is one of the most important cultural cities in the region.
The exact dates of the new edition are expected to be made public in the coming weeks, while the call for films is open to directors from Kosovo, Albania, the region and the world.
